This weeks Recycling Roundup features stories including East Suffolk county council are no longer accepting plastic bags and plastic food film as part of their collection, Coventry council have taken over the brown bin recycling across Nuneaton and Bedworth, and finally 6 Somerset councils are looking for new recycling contractors in preparation for its Recycle More progamme.

Amazon Invests $10 Million in US Recycling Fund

Amazon have announced plans that they are planning to introduce 2 new initiaves to reduce its carbon footprint, the corporate giant is planning to invest $10 million in the 'Closed Loop' fund and to install solar panels to help reduce their footprint by 6000 metric tonnes of co2 each year.

Should Manufacturers Be Taxed for Using Plastic

There have been calls for firms who use plastic and other hard to recycle materials in their products to be taxed to help reduce the amount that goes to landfill.  Taxing firms would force companies to pass on costs to consumers which could discourage people from buying their products, which may in turn make them look at more environmentally friendly packaging.

No Charge to Park? Pay With a Plastic Bottle

If you run out of change to pay for car parking at the CitiPark in Leeds, you can now pay in plastic bottles, for each bottle they recycle, they can claim 20p off of parking.  If you collect 95 bottles you can park for 24 hours for free, and 30 bottles will entitle you to park for 1 hour.
