Europe's Worst Recyclers Set to Miss EU Targets

A report has looked at recycling arcoss of the member states and has been forced ot issue warning to 14 nations who are in danger of missing the EU targets.  That list includes Malta, Greece, and Cyrpus who are currently only recycling 20% of their waste compared to the targe of 50%.

Malta is Europe's Worst Recycler

Malta is Europe's worst recycler, only 6.7% of all waste in malta  despite there being a push towards better waste management, to put it in context the average in Europe is 45%.  The Environment Minister said that recycling would become compulsory under new waste legislation that is currently being drafted.

Recycling Rates Across Europe Infographic

Recyclingbins.co.uk has produced an infographic showing municipal solid waste (msw) rates within Europe and the USA. With the European Environment Agency already stating that many countries in Europe will fail to reach the European directive of recycling at least 50% by 2020, it is important that Britain continues the trend over the last 10 years of having the fastest growing recycling rate in Europe.
