We're In The Independant

In a 2013 report, we criticised the UK for the amount of rubbish it recycles, which at the time was just 39%. Since then recycling has been on the up, with many cities going above and beyond to increase rates, accessibility and efficiency.

Some local authorities focus on changing the types of bins residents use, such as Edinburgh, which last year replaced old bins with new ones of a different size. At the time many complained, but it wasn't long before the new system proved far more efficient that the old one. Then there are true stories of schools that run highly impressive recycling drives, and communities that use art competitions to brighten up wheelie bins and make neighbourhoods more receptive to green waste management. This is all excellent and it makes us very happy to know that so many people are doing everything they can to save the planet.

But the place that really gets our attention is Bristol. Why? Because it's been named Europe’s sixth greenest city, based on recycling schemes, cleanliness and emissions. Bristol is the only city in the UK to make the top ten, according to a recent study that aims to highlight the best places for undertaking green initiatives and tackling carbon dioxide. How do we know that the data in this study is reliable? Because it's ours!
