Hovis are going to be introducing clearer labelling to make customers aware that it's bread bags are 100% recyclable and encourage customer to recycle them after use.  The new labelling is just another step the company is taking to reduce its environmental footprint.

A company that is working on innovating ways to recycle takeaway cups has won an entrepeneurs award.  They use a technique which heats the cup to a very high temperature in the absence of oxygen, this can then be broken down into gas and bio-oil to produce energy.

The biggest challenge we face when it comes to recycling car batteries is the emergence of electric cars and hybrids, these cars use lithium ion batteries which are more complex and could be more hazardous than the standard car batteries.  Some companies are trying to lead the way to find viable solutions for disposal of these new batteries.

Sheffield council said it had the best recycling rates in South Yorkshire, but they have been criticised for the introduction of brown recycling bins that are going to replace the blue recycling boxes due to the fact they wont be accepting all plastic items, this includes yoghurt pots, carrier bags and margarine tubs.  

Coca Cola Europe has launched a new marketing campaign aimed at encouraging people to recycle their empty drinks bottles and offering a reward when they do so. Also during recycle week, Coca Cola will take over Picadilly lights and encourage passers by to recycle their plastic bottles once they have finished their drink.

H&M's charitible arm the H&M Foundation has opened a textile recycling plant in a bid to be a circular company by 2030.  The Hong Kong facility will use hydrothermal recycling technology which is used to separate materials like cotton and polyester.  

Amey has joined forces with Recycling Lives and HMP Dovegate to give offenders tge chance to gain work skills.  As part of this scheme a recycling academy for electronic and electrical has been set up inside of the prison  and up to 40 inmates will strip our glass, plastics and circuit boards.  

Severn Trent has branched out and bought a food waste recycling company called Agrivert.  Agrivert produces energy from food waste and was bought as part of its Green Power Business, and they say that renewable energy is of strategic importance to them and the country as a whole.  

There are quite a few projects around at the moment which aim to help protect our planet for the future, this includes powering the Notting Hill Carnival venues and Lego introducing a plant based plastic which is far more easily recycled.  

People who attended this year's Notting Hill Carnival were encouraged to recycled their aluminium cans as part of 'Every Can Counts' programme.  After the carnival it took two nights and over 30 refuse trucks sweepers to clean up the area, despite this they say that recycling was increased during the festival.
